FAWN PIED DIAMOND SPARROW - FIRST SIGHTING AND FIRST PHOTO

Post by wildbill » Tue Aug 21, 2012 8:49 pm

Today I had unbelievable good luck with my pied diamond sparrows. The first 3 to come out were heavy pied birds. I knew there were more to come and today i entered the aviary a fawn flash shot past and i captured these images with my camera. You are probably viewing your very first fawn pied diamond sparrow mutation.
There may be more around but if so they are kept quiet about. But I think it's worth seeing and better still I was lucky enough to breed it. Hope you enjoy.
i've been trying to breed this mutation for a full 12 months and finally today was the day =D> =D>

Congratulations on your fawn offspring!!! I love the species and love seeing your birds!!

I personally have not seen fawn diamond sparrows at the shows for a while now. About 2 yrs ago there was a guy that had normals and fawns. They are stunning as normals but striking in fawn! I loved the fawns but his prices were extremely high or I would have brought them home with me. Diamonds are getting very hard to find and are getting up there in price, even the normals.

It is very upsetting. Other people see them as just birds, but I think we see it a different way. With imports being cut off who knows when we may ever see new cordons, waxbills, etc. Sorry I am getitng off topic

hi all
good to see a bit of interest in this diamond fire-tail mutation. it's taken 12 months with trial and error and finally it's here.like all mutations the next step is to keep it alive to maturity and breeding.
although it has only been out of the nest for 2 days i observed it with the hen today ....and size wise it's a bigger bird already.
it's winter in oz and temperature is low. very low - like - 4 nightly to 6 to 10 degrees celsius daily. diamonds don't mind the cold as they use a breeding or sleeper. not like the old gouldian finch which if allowed will sit outside in the flight or much worse.

Love seeing your birds, wish you much luck in keeping the mutations going. We see little of the diamonds compared to a few years ago. In hindsight I probably should have bought a few pairs back then. I've seen the fawns a long while ago as I mentioned above. Stunning but my favorite is still the normals!

Please post more pictures for us! Stay warm!!
