Finch Breeder Database
Can someone help me? Stubby is YH.PB.GB..........But because he has had chicks with Blue Back, and checks with White Breast, and chicks with Black Head; we know he is YH/BH.PB/WB.GB/b. That we know for sure.
When using Finch Breeder Database on this forum, the only way I can get his colors right is if I call him Red Head/Black Head & then click on one of the Yellow Head columns. If I click on either the first orange head column or the 2nd orange head columb, I get RH/b/y.PC/w.Gb/b.
If I click on both columns in the Orange Head boxes I get YH.PC/w.Gb/b
I want to get YH/b.Pc/w.Gb/b

Re: Can't get Finch Forum Database to give me what I want
That database was designed and set up by one of our members, ikhom. You can go to http://www.finchbreederdatabase.com and ask him if he can help you. That is, if this is what you are referring to. I don't have Gouldians and so am no help to you at all.

YH can not be split to black head. If you had BH chicks then your hen must be split to BH.

Hens can not be split to BH but males can. Maybe the calculator has an error?Dayna wrote: YH can not be split to black head. If you had BH chicks then your hen must be split to BH.

What is your hen?
If your hen is RH then any BH chicks will be hens.
If your hen is BH then you will have male and female BH chicks.
If your hen is YH then all visually BH chicks will again be hens and they will have yellow tipped beaks (YTB) making them genetically YH

Oh, sorry I thought that it wasn't possible because black head is dominant over yellow.debbie276 wrote:Hens can not be split to BH but males can. Maybe the calculator has an error?Dayna wrote: YH can not be split to black head. If you had BH chicks then your hen must be split to BH.

Re: Can't get Finch Forum Database to give me what I want
Thanks very much; I did send ikhom a msg.
On the other hand (wing), the 3 genetic forecasters I run are
Gouldian Genetics Forecast on-line
Gouldianfinches.eu
Those above two both show males being RH/BH/YH and females BH/YH.
I also use Finch Breeder Database which I kind of like best, but it doesn't have the variations he other two genetic forecasters have.
Stubby is YH/BH(YTB).PB/WB.GB/BB
and Grace is BH.WB.GB/BB.
They are done as a couple (having raised 5) & are both w/different mates now; I have sold some of the 5, and just wanted to show correct splits for them to the buyers.
My issue at the moment is using Finch Breeder Database, I have to put Stubby in as a RH/BH.PB/WB.Gb/b to get his correct color. There is no place to put him in as a YH/BH. To me, putting him in as a RH/BH is wrong.

Re: Can't get Finch Forum Database to give me what I want
I have noticed too from using the finch breeder database that the gouldian genetic calculator is off and is really hard to get the right results when you start getting into the more complicated genetics so because of that I mainly use the other calculators and just use the database as a record keeping thing as a back up.

Dayna I guess I'll have to do that as well. I do LOVE Finch Breeder Database for the record keeping; it's totally awesome !

Re: Can't get Finch Forum Database to give me what I want
Maybe this will help: Since the yellow head gene is on a different chromosome from the red/black head genes, saying yellow head split to black head is technically incorrect. The term "split to" refers to copies of alleles that are found in the same location. So for the pair of chromosomes where the yellow head is located, he would be yellow/yellow. (Which also isn't quite right, it's preferred to say "double factor yellow".) Then for his pair of X chromosomes, where the red and black genes are located, he has to be genetically a red head in order for the orange color on the head to show up. Which would be either red/red or red/black.finchandlovebird wrote: Thanks very much; I did send ikhom a msg.

So on that Finch Breeder Database, is there a separate option for you to choose what his yellow head genes are, after you pick the RH/BH part?

Re: Finch Breeder Database
Finnie; thanks.
There are 2 columns for RH and/or BH
1st column I chose RH
2nd column I chose BH
There are 2 columns for YH
If I choose 1st or 2nd individually, I get RH/b/y
If I check both columns I get YH
If it helps, their 5 chicks were BH & RH.

Re: Finch Breeder Database
Oh, I think I see what the trouble with that calculator is, then. You said if you click on 1 red head and 1 black head, and then on both yellow heads, it just gives you the YH designation, and leaves out the RH/bh part.
It sounds like it is then leaving it up to you to remember that part on your own. So yeah, a flaw.
I have to admit I've never used a calculator before. With my budgies, I like to figure everything out with pen and paper. (I know, I'm a geek.) I should go play around with it, because now I'm curious what it would tell you if, for instance, you click on 2 black heads and 2 yellow heads.

Hi,
Sorry for the mistake with Gouldian Finch Genetic Forecast. I made some changes to correct it.
