Best pellets?

Post by Dayna » Wed Aug 29, 2012 1:26 pm

What's the best brand/type of pellets to get? I know organic is obviously best but is there a better brand than others to get? Does anyone know any good sites that have comparisons for different brands?

Dayna, recently Zupreem changed their fruit blend forumla, my birds use to eat all of it but not since the change.

I use Roudybush Nibbles and have used these for years on my hookbills like Bourks, parrotlets, lovebirds. I seem to go back in the direction of Roudybush Nibbles.

I also use Labefer's finch pellets, it can easily be mixed into eggfoods and is great for weaning babies onto and for parents to feed to young.

I agree with Cindy. My finches won't eat the Zupreem anymore! I offer them the same as Cindy. They get La Feber pellets mixed in with eggfood and I offer Roudybush nibbles and crumbles now.

Whatever Zupreem did to the red and orange has caused the finches droppings to be red or orange....scared me a bit when I first saw it in the tray!!! Roudybush and Laferbers is what they get now. Zupreem makes a natural but the birds will not eat it.

There are many good manufacturers out there, and to me, the best pellet is the one your birds will eat. I would buy a small bag of each brand and do a taste test with your birds. Roudybush, Lafeber's, Mazuri, Harrison's, Zupreem--and probably more--are all good feeds. I was lucky enough to pick up some sample bags at a recent convention, but typical birds, when I offered treat dishes with say Mazuri pellets, some birds gobbled them up, others wouldn't touch them. I refuse to run a cafeteria in my home--once I have decided on a brand, they will all have to eat it!

LOL Sally. Our birds are just like kids. Never want what you offer them.

I use 3 brands
- Lafeber's for the gouldians
- Roudybush nibbles for the zebras and societies and occasionally for the gouldians
- Zupreem fruit for the zebras.

I used to use Zupreem natural, until they discontinued the XS size.
I used natural because with fruit flavor the poop would stain the perches and other stuff that the poop landed on a red/orange color.
