Re: Wanting to rescue
Welcome to the forum. Where in PA? Outside aviary or inside? If it's outside is it heated? What kind of birds are you looking for?

Re: Wanting to rescue in Pennsylvania
There are always Zebras on craigslist in my area, but they aren't free. Even the shelters usually have a fee they charge. You could put an ad on craigslist for your area, stating that you are looking for rescues. You will need to decide what you want to put in your aviary, and how many, as not all species are compatible. Also, if you adopt brothers and sisters and put them in your aviary, they will breed, and this is one combination you do not want.

Then there's the whole quarrantine issue, also. You know you're gonna have to do it, ESPECIALLY with rescue birds that may have not come from the best of conditions. One seriously ill bird can wipe out the entire aviary. Bob

Re: Wanting to rescue in Pennsylvania
Hi Justin,
I am hoping you would interested in my situation. First, I live in Northern, NJ so we are not that far from one another.
A quick overview. I bought 4 society finches the end of July from a pet store. Within one week the hens started laying eggs (it turned out I have 2 hens and 2 males). I could not see how many eggs were in the nest and I really did not think all of them would hatch.
Fast forward to the present. I now have 4 adults and 11 hatchlings. All very healthy and happy. I have moved the entire family into a larger cage but I cannot keep all of them. I must find homes for at least 6 (maybe more if I can part with them). It was a very wonderful experience watching the entire process for me and my family. We were all very excited when the first babies hatched and I am going to have a hard time parting with them. But like I said I cannot keep 15 birds in my home. The cage they are in now is definitely not large enough to permanently house all of them. It was not my intent to breed birds, I just wanted the 4 I purchased. The first baby hatched on August 24th. So they are approximately 5 weeks old. All different colors. I may give away the one male adult as well because he is already very determined to start a new clutch...if you know what I mean.
So with that being said, I am looking for a loving home. I do not want any money for them just someone to take good care of them.
Please let me know if you are interested.
