What happened to these wing feathers?

Post by HoangQuan » Mon Sep 03, 2012 12:01 am

I've just found out that my Black cheeked zebra can't fly the long distance!! checked his wing feathers and this was what I saw. Seems like some of the the wing feathers miss the hooklets so they can't form the right shape and the bird can't fly, the same as Eumo zebra.
Do you have any idea about this? or this is just some damages by mites? I honestly don't think it's the mites. :-?

Could the bird be flying near the wire? Being pushed there by another bird even? It just looks stripped like the bird has had mechanical damage to the wing feathers.

It should moult out to new feathers.

I have no idea, he's been like that since the day I brought him home, so I can't make sure of anything. I hope that you're right, I honestly do. Had to keep him in small cage for a while, poor thing :(

I'm leaning with monotwine looks to be damaged by hitting something Bush or even wire. You still can try a mute spray to help if there is an underlying mite issue.

Cindy, We don't have Eumo available here, and this bird was bought, so I don't know much about its background.:?

I think his wing feathers look a lot like ones in the last photo from this link. hmmmm
