the ones that plug in are the worse, anything made by them that is oil based. It sends particles into the air and it sticks to everything. My daughter left a shirt at a friends house, brought it home for me to launder, it took several washings and airing the shirt out to get that oily perfume stench out.

They are also saying they are not all that healthy for people to breath in also. If there is a clip in one in your car and you plan on getting birds, remove it and air out the car for a few days prior to the show.

Birds hold the air in their lungs and air sacs longer. If you want birds you need to give up the air freshners, scented candles, teflon. It may not kill your bird right away but it may shorten their lives or lead to health/breathing issues.

Back in the day of my coal miner ancestors, it was common practice to carry a canary in a cage with them into the mines. The mines were not ventilated in those days, and it was a dangerous place to be. The canary was more sensitive to fumes than the humans, so if the canary dropped dead, they knew they'd better get out, or they'd be next. If you are going to keep birds, there are just some things you have to give up.

Well said Sally! The birds' respiratory system is more complex than ours, it had not only the lungs but airs sacs...more tissue in the body to be damaged by chemicals, fumes, smoke intake...all of which are a big .

If you read the article I posted on the respiratory syatem it really explains in depth how the oxygen is used in the body by birds. I will help you understand why not to use these things around them, even in the next room.
