strange happening

This morning I was sitting on a bench in my bird room getting ready to band the last two owls when all of a sudden one of my gouldians (the one I adopted back from my friend) just fell at my feet. It didin't seem to be able to fly so I picked it up and put it into a small cage with some nv water and probiotics. I dipped its beak in the water and I literally thought it was going to die in my hands. It was leaning over on its side. In about 10 minutes it was up and it is now perching again. I am keeping it for now in the cage, but I just have no idea what happend.

That is very strange. Was there any movement like it was having a seizure, or was it just frozen still? I think you are wise to keep it in a cage for now so you can monitor it. Keep us posted, please.

I have noticed that he seem to have some balancing problems
at times.
He is leaned over to one side and has actually twirled around a few
times. I am not familiar with this twirling that gouldians have and
wonder if this could be some of the problem.

Well, he didn't make it. I have had some concerns about his balance since I got him back. I am no sure what was wrong with him, but it sure is hard to loose a bird and especially such a beautiful one.

Aweee.Sorry for your lose, that is strange the way he was behaving. Do you think he might have bump into a wall or something really hard and not his equilibrium out of whack and could have had some internal problems as well.

It is possible of course, but this bird has had some balancing problems since I got him back. He just seem to be off balance alot. But he did take a hard fall so who knows. It was just too strange. A week ago he was singing and hopping.

Its sad when you lose a finch but to me it hurts more when it is like a favorite. Not to sound careless but for example i have many zebras and there are some that i wouldnt feel to bad to lose compared to others that i have that i would hate to lose. Because of the rarity in color or there personality or just even being a good foster etc.

So sorry he didn't make it.

It does sound like it was a neurological problem, since his balance was affected. He could have flown into something really hard and hit his head, too--it happens. Just never gets easier.
