Heating
Hello,
It's been a while since I've checked in and lots has happened...I can give details later, but here I go again with question:
I have the gouldian finches in a wire flight cage, but I am having difficulty finding a way to keep it warm enough for them without making myself have to work in 85 degree heat. They are in a small computer room with doors. I bought a space heater today and it is heating up the entire room quite well, but I won't trust a space heater (fire hazard) overnight or when I'm not home.
Any suggestions? I have also bought a ceramic heater, but I just don't think that will be enough to keep the heat where it should be.

I do have a full spectrum light on during the day but it doesn't keep the cage warm enough....plus, I have to turn it off at night.

Re: Heating
How warm are you trying to make it?
In the winter I just put a ceramic heater hanging over their perch. When they need the heat they go under it, but it really keeps their coop warm. As long as the temperature is above 50F they are fine.

Re: Heating
The computer room is room temperature (around 70, although I will, double check it). I have a full spectrum light and a daytime heat lamp, but I think I will change that out for a red/nighttime heat lamp that can be on all the time.
The avian vet I talked to said that gouldians needed 85ish temps to be hardy enough not to get sick.

Re: Heating
My gouldians are in temps from 60F to 100F depending on the season (they are outside). In the winter I used an oil filled radiator in the coop that would turn on if the temps got below 50F. This year I'm using a ceramic heater hanging over their perch area. I used to close of the little flyway door to the outside during winter but this year I'm going to leave it open so they can still go in and out. The ceramic heater is keeping the coop 60F and it is 44F outside at the moment. The coop is roughly 6 foot x 8 foot x 8 foot tall.
