GS is plucking his own feathers... What do I do?

Post by FinchFlurry » Fri Oct 05, 2012 2:09 pm

2 weeks ago I noticed that a few yellow feathers were missing on his chest. I looked today and things seem to be getting worse. He's got 2 feathers missing from the back of his wings, almost all the yellow has been plucked from his chest just leaving a patch of grey feathers...

I dont know what's going on. He's never acted like this before.

Now, I do have a new finch, his little sister who has her own cage set up next to his. I have her in her own cage until I sell her. Could this be the cause for this behaviour?

A green singer. Sorry, should've specified.

Sounds like he may view his sister as a potential mate I would presume he is plucking himself to use his feathers as nesting material. I think if you can move little sister out of his sight and hearing, he may settle down. Do keep us posted on how things progress. [-o<

Will do. Thank you! I'll try that and see what happens.
