canary bar spacing

I have a couple of flight cages, and was hoping to use one of them to give a pair of colorbred canaries more space.

The first flight cage has 5/8" bar spacing, and currently houses a pair of diamond doves. I was thinking of shifting the diamond doves to the following cage.....:

Cage two, the one I am thinking of putting the diamonds in is about the same size as the first cage, but has 1" x 1" bar spacing. I don't think the bars would be safe for the canaries, but the doves should be fine in it......?

Is either cage canary-safe? Is 5/8" pushing it?
