Fledgling Goulds with colors???
This is not my bird, it is Mathew Dow's little juvie. Here is the link to view this amazing fledgling. It has what looks to be nearly adult coloring, but it is just out of the nest!

Re: Fledgling Goulds with colors???
Over the years I have seen this in the fledglings of others but haven't had it in my own.

Re: Fledgling Goulds with colors???
I wonder if they turn out any different than most when they go through their first molt?

I don't recall hearing about any difference after the molt. Should be interesting to see if you follow Mathew's.

I've had quite a few fledge a little brighter or look to be half or partially molted. Doesn't really seem to indicate anything. If for instance they had any feathers plucked or fall out young they would immediately be replaced with their adult feathers (this is why some people will proactively "pull out" head and breast color feathers as fledglings to determine early on what the phenotype will be).

Yeah I've never done it - I remember it being really controversial when it came up on the forums.
