RC hen or Bluebreasted hen

Post by Edster » Mon Dec 10, 2012 7:54 pm

I'm posting this picture (higher resolution than the pics in previous post)to help determine if I have a Red Cheeked or a Blue Breasted hen. It was sold to me as a Red Cheek.

Thanks for your help.

I enlarged this photo as much as I could, and it is hard to tell, though I would guess it is a Red-cheeked hen. The beak is the thing that would make me question it, as the Blue-breasted has a more silvery grey beak, while the RCCB will have a pinkish beak with a darker tip. It is difficult to be exact, can you post another photo with a close-up picture of the CB hen's beak?

Thank you for your reply Sally. I will borrow my neighbours digital 35mm SLR as it willl zoom in very closely from a distance. Will post a shot of her beak as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Looks exactly like my RCCB hen did. They have a longer beak, and Sally is right, it is more pink.

Hello everyone,

Submitting a photo of my Cordon Bleu pair. I'm pretty sure now, that she is a RC hen.

I keep RCCBs too and I agree, she looks like a RC cordon bleu hen.

Beautiful birds!

Yes, she's a Red-cheeked Cordon Blue hen. Nice looking pair, and good luck on breeding them.
