Re: Going down into the 30s tonight!
I had a pretty decent frost at my house this morning. Thankfully all my birds are indoors. My indoor temperature however got down to 65, the coldest it's been in at least a year. The newly fledged baby javas look chilly, perching closest to the light, but I'm sure they'll be fine. Nice job Charlie with your set up!

Charlie,
Thank you so much for such a detailed answer. You aviaries are great and you have a nice collection of birds. Parrot finches are also my favorite. I am planning to buy one or two pairs of Parrot finches in spring.

My open flights are glass and timber clad for the winter...still drops to freezing but no wind or draughts.
I have removed all high perches in the cold section now to encourage roosting in the heated/insulated half.I only maintain around 50 in there though and Rosa Bourkes and finches thrive quite happily at that.

Guess I'm going to have to prepare too.
Where do you get the heat lamps? Bulb wattage?

I buy the heat lamps at any hardware store. The socket on the clamps should be ceramic not plastic though.
