I'm very sorry. :(

Cats can have bad bacteria on their teeth and claws, and I'm sure a small puncture is all that is needed to transmit some life-threatening diseases, especially for such a tiny bird.

Is it too soon to get another one, I dont think they the type of birds to 'live' alone in cage?

So sorry for your loss. My girlfriend's cat bit her on the finger about 10 years ago, he bit clear down to the bone. It took her months to recover. The doctor was afraid they were going to amputate her finger, as they could not get the infection under control. They finally got her fixed, and she did not lose the finger.

So sorry it ended like that. I was pulling for him. I too however would try to get another mate right away so the hen won't be lonely (especially if they were the only two birds you have). Just don't rush into getting one of "suspect" health, just to get another male. Take your time picking one out and examine it from a distance for a while (as well as up close) to be certain that it is healthy. And don't forget to quarrantine. Good luck. Bob

Thank you Bob for your reply.

I'm actually going back to the same breeder. He has a LOT of ribons for his birds so I'd think he'd be pretty concern about his reputation to sell a unhealthy bird. But you are right, I will check them out. He says he has 3 males left.

I just have my female Gouldian now so I don't want her to be alone much as she knows that her companion crossed over (she went to see him after he died and she chirp)

I am still in disbelieve about this, I keep thinking is a nightmare and I'll wake up...
