Yellow agate x isabel ???

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

50% females all agates
50% males agate/isabel (so either they'll be visual agates and carry isabel or be visual isabels and carry agate).

Thank you Coopers,
Does that mean those genes are sex-linked ? I wonder if those genes work as the sex-linked back color in the gouldian finches

Yep, both are sex-linked traits.

I stand corrected on some of my information. All your males will be visual agates and carriers of brown. Isabels are a little more complicated because they're both sex-linked but dilutes of their respected parent color (ground color) and isabels are made possible by a rarity known as cross over.

Coopers,
Do you mean "Brown" as Isabel?
So all of the males will be visual agate and carry brown, while all females will be a mixed ( diluted) coler bw yellow agate and brown ?

Here's what my friend wrote to me earlier when he was correcting me on your cockbird offspring.
First, agate is diluted black and isabel is diluted brown, so we cant have an agate isabel. Secondly, with all sex linked mutations there are only ever two pairing combinations that will give a visual cockbird with the mutation. It's worth remembering; visual hen with visual cockbird or visual hen and carrier cockbird. So in your pairing there cannot be visual cockbirds with the isabel mutation. This pairing has two mutations in play. The brown mutation and the dilute. Both birds show the dilute so all the young have to be dilute (agate or isabel) rather than black or brown. Then as the hen is a visual brown (diluted) all the cockbirds will be brown carriers but visual agates and all the hens will be agates. So no isabels at all.
Does that make sense. Is your Isabel a yellow mosaic like the agate? As you see, all your hens will be browns.

Dear Coopers,
I'm really sorry to let you know that the female stop laying on eggs on the 12th day :( There were only 2 fertilized eggs . I broke 1 ( my bad ), the another one was placed in a society finch nest ( with 3 chicks inside ), with a hope of hatching. Luckily, the society finch parents have done their best, the baby hatched successfully, with their kindly helps. I am now hand feeding him/her. With only 1 chick, we can not tell male and female color of this clutch. However, i will keep you informed of the color and gender of that chick ( if he/she can stay alive until molting ) . I'll keep breeding that pair, so hope the next clutch will be better :)

Uh oh. Well hopefully the next clutch will yield better results. This year has been a rough start for me. But it's mostly my fault. Hoping the rest of my season goes well and I end on a strong note.

And since the chick had white fuzz instead of silver fuzz ( the fuzz that the chick had when he/she was born), i guess that he/she will be a yellow agate :) The chick is still doing well today, being fostered by another female, because i don't have too much time for handfeeding. Hopefully you will be doing well also :)

Hey Coopers,
Here is the chick of the next clutch . Unfortunately, the female had laid 3 eggs but only 2 fertilised, and only 1 hatched ( 1 died in egg ). He/she turns out to be a truly yellow agate !

Will keep you up to date with the next clutch. Till now i've got 2 yellow agate canaries only ( haven't know the gender yet ), from 2 clutches. Hope that the 3rd clutch will be better :D
