Zebra has big bent tail

Post by rafadiaz » Sat Jul 19, 2008 9:17 am

My pair of zebras had 4 babies, they all appear heathy (eating, flying, etc).
They are about 6 weeks old a ad one has a tail to be bigger then the others, it is also bent slightly downwards, when he breaths it moves on its own. CoULD THIS BE CAUSE OF ITS AGE?

P.S. He was born that way

Sorry no one has answered you. I guess it is because no one knows. I have a strawberry finch with a tail that goes out like a fan. It could just be some kind of deformity. Does it seem okay otherwise?

I wouldn't worry as long as it seems healthy otherwise. Sometimes they are just born with these oddities.

Can you get a pic by chance? no sure what to say but sounds like some of his/her feather may just be 'ruffled' as sometimes the shaft gets bent to go along with the fact that most young birds don't have complete control of their tail feathers. Just a thought.

It also may have been bent while he was still stuffed in the nest with the other kids. When he replaces those feathers his tail may be completely normal.
