Is my cage too small?

It depends on how long he was in the other cage... the longer her was in the small cage the longer it will take him to adjust to his new surroundings...

And hopefully he isnt always alone... desperately try to talk your cousin into buying him a companion... Finches can die from lonliness...

How would I go about the process of putting another finch in the cage? would i just need to put him in or some sort of gradual exposure technique?

New birds should be quarantined before being introduced to other birds. Quarantine can vary from 2 weeks to 3-4 months or more, depending on the circumstances (new birds added to a valuable collection would need the longer quarantine period to protect the collection). Then, remove the original occupants from the cage, rearrange perches, nests, toys, as much as possible so that it seems like a new cage, and then place all the birds in the cage at the same time. This helps to break the territorial issues of the old birds. Watch them all carefully for a few days, just in case there is any aggression.

One of my pleasures is spoiling my critters...I too have joined together cages and my babies reward me with happy sounds. And tons of babies. Soon will be time to separate into Boy cages and Girl Cages! I have just found that a big hit with them is Italian flat Parsley...$.48 a bunch and it goes a long way. They like it better than most green food I have offered. and fresh bath water at least once a day...When I die, I want to come back as one of my birds/dogs/fish!

How is the new finch going? When I got all of my new birds, none of them knew how to fly free in the room, and had weak wings. It took them a while to get used to it but they all fly free now

thanks for the heads up guys. you were absolutely right, for about 5 minutes, my finch got out of his cage, i was there though so it was okay for then, but definitely not going to do that again. since then, i attached very strong garden twine tightly length ways between the bars to reduce the gap to 1/4 inch up to 1/2 inch.

btw, he is flying alot more and i think his wings are getting stronger.
