How to stop seeds falling?!

Post by omz123 » Thu Feb 07, 2013 9:47 am

There is always an incredible mess next to my bird cage due to seeds being flung everywhere. Any idea as to how to reduce this problem?

Just off the top of my head, covered seed cups, making the wire side solid or feeding on the floor of the enclosure.

If they are in a cage you can go to your better equipped pet store and get a skirt that will go around the base of the cage...

I have one that is white and transparent around my 18"x18"x30" flight... they come in all kinds of sizes... below are some links to ones similar one that I have...

They catch everything because I wrap it around underneath and when its time to clean the cage I pull it slowly down and take it to the trash can and shake it out there... I really like it!!!

I would consider getting a seed hopper. :)

I've always wondered if the seed hopper would accomodate seed with bigger pieces of dried fruit & nut in it,not too big of pieces, finch size? :)

Here is a quick pick of what I have on a cage... the slack in the front actually holds everything that would otherwise be all over the floor... :)

I had originally went with the seed hopper but kept getting clogs with bigger pieces... but I was only able to find one that I liked... you may not be as picky as I...

This made a huge difference for me. I had been using the seed cups that came with my cage, the ones that attach to the side of the cage. Now that I feed them from dishes on the floor of the cage, away from the edge of the cage, I barely have a mess at all!!

It also comes from having a bigger cage than I did before. When I had my first finches in their small cage, it was a colossal mess because there wasn't much place for the seeds to go, and they were also bored because they didn't have much space to do things so they ate a lot more and therefore had more mess. Not that you have to go buy a huge cage to stop the mess, but just something I noticed from my experience.
