3-4-2013 4 New Baby Bourkes

Post by cindy » Mon Mar 04, 2013 11:23 pm

The baby bourkes are here!!! Two are unrelated to the other two. The single bird at the bottom is super friendly, runs right to the bars and didn't seem to mind Zoe, our cavalier sniffing the cage. The older two bourkes in the flight can see the babies and are very interested in them, especially the hen. All six will be together in the flight until all are mature, but first I want to let the little 4 settle in.

Very pretty - good luck with all of them! BTW, do Bourkes generally make good parents on their own? As you know, I've been contemplating them for a while, but prefer birds that traditionally do a good job of raising their young. I really don't care to hand feed unless absolutely necessary. Bob

They do make good parents on their own. Young are uselly a little more flighty but do settle down and become calm when mature. Handfeds just make it easier as they mature. They are rather sweet as babies when handfed. I have both handfed and parent raised.

I am also picking up two unrelated pairs of scarlet chested keets, a pair of normal and white pied javas this week.

Thank you Don and Lisa!
