We had a huge tamarind tree in the back of our house growing up. I remember picking the fruit and helping my mother remove the seeds from the pulp for cooking.
this is the one I hadnt told you. The weaver finches did make damage, terrible one (picking up tamarind leaves til they almost completly bold at the upper part of the tree). after weeks of observation I thought I had to give them up. So a few weeks ago I safely trapped them and released them (dont worry, they're local here).

now after 2-3 weeks the tamarind regrow their leaves. other finches dont make damage.

other than that usually I'll water them everyday (and fertilize them occasionally). but thinking about the birds inside which some will be brooding theirs in the future, I think Im gonna change the manual watering with maybe one which make less disturbance to the birds, like dripping system maybe. but in the meanwhile I need no worry about it because we're in the middle of the rainy season.
I would love to visit Indonesia someday. One of my friends love Indonesian cuisine so we go to a local Indonesian restaurant every few months. I'm more of a dessert person, so I always order the "Es Campur" after we eat. Believe it or not, they even at Kopi Luwak at the restaurant! I haven't been brave enough to try that yet, but I always think about it when we dine there.
Lol! (for the indonesian term you know). just cant believe my eyes you wrote 'es campur' and 'kopi luwak'.

well, at least you've taste indonesian cullinary. :) and what food you usually order? I guess satay and soto are pretty famous there? or maybe daging rendang?
I hope you have a wonderful day. Please do update us on the happenings of your aviary when you have a moment. You have one of the loveliest aviaries I've ever seen. As a gardener myself, I adore those adorable pots you have those plants in, especially the larger trees.

Have a great day! :)
Thank you, Bugaboo. :)

Oh gosh, so sorry to hear about the damage to the tamarind tree by the weavers. [-X Tamarind trees are, however, very resilient trees, despite the delicate looking leaves. :)

In regards to the local Indonesian cuisine, we have tons of selections offered. Satay and soto are indeed popular, but I think satay is considered the chosen favorite for many. We have rendang here as well!

I find Indonesian cuisine very fascinating because you can taste the influences of many of the neighboring countries. The incorporation of coconut milk, curries (yum!), and even lumpiah and wontons, which are very popular food items in the Philippines and China, respectively. One of my favorite things at our local restaurant is the kroket kentang and bakwan jagung.

I usually order the ayam bumbu rujak (super spicy), bistik jawa, ayam opor, or the ayam panggang kecap. Can you tell that I like chicken?   Next time I'm there, I'm going to try the nasi goreng jawa or the bakmi. Oh goodness, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! :)
God is my redeemer and it is through Him I have found eternal happiness. I am grateful, I am blessed, and I am truly loved. I wish all this and more for all members of our finch forum family. May you all be blessed and highly favored. <3

I guess I am expecting timor zeb baby boom in the near future. I bought these nest boxes when I was at Splendid a few days ago. I bought 10 of them ($7.5 all - half cheaper than surabaya offered me). I put 5 in this finch aviary and 5 other in the budgie aviary. and both birds (finches and budgies) welcome this new nest boxes. I saw the other 2 pair of timor zebra went in and out of these boxes.

Oh, I drool over your Strawberry photos! And it makes me feel so bad to look at mine in cages, instead of in an aviary like yours. To look up and see a Strawberry in a tree, that would be heaven. Thanks for all your photos!

not much of update pics:

newest fledglings (timor zeb), but I didnt have the time to count how many. I saw at least there were 3 of them.
besides the beak coloration (still black, the previous ones already turned to orange) their movement are 'clumsy' :D
