Well, sadly, Lemondrop is showing no sign of improvement after his treatment of Scatt on Wednesday morning. I really don't think it's air sac mites.

I did do some reading and found something that does sound like his symptoms and actually mentioned the thing with the swallowing -

"Trichomononas: Occasionally seen in canaries, finches, budgerigars and in young Amazon parrots. They are uncommon in domestically raised birds. Symptoms may include white-yellow lesions adhering to the crop and esophagus; the bird may have weight loss and difficulty swallowing, as well as difficulty breathing. "

Apparently it's a type of internal parasite. Unfortunately, it says you can never eradicate it but only keep it under control. Looks like the med for this is Ronex... I have spent a small fortune on bird medications since Lemondrop took ill, ordered some Ronex and will try that when it arrives. Praying it helps, hate seeing him so sickly.

P.S. By the way, Debbie, I know you mentioned the yellow/white spots in the mouth early on in this thread. I really can't look into his mouth - he's miserable enough without prying his mouth open but looks like you may have been on the right track with your question about this.

Try preparing him couscous and see if he'll eat it. Crack open a CoQ10 liquigell and add a bit to the couscous if he does. This helped prolonged the life of one of my canaries exhibiting similar symptoms (the open mouth hard swallowing part), that even an avian vet said probably wouldn't last more than a few days longer. Couscous provides quick, easily digestble energy and CoQ10 provides energy at the cellular level in the mitochondria. It can strengthen the heart muscles and aid in respiration. Bob

Canker/Cochlosoma
Most common Protozoal Disease in aviculture.

I was hoping that it wasn't the case :( Is there a chance he was fostered by society's or exposed to society's?
Sending good vibes, hope you can get on top of it

Signs of Canker/Cochlosoma include: diarrhea, yellowish or bright green droppings, undigested seed in droppings, butt pumping, wet vent feathers, sleeping during the day, head tucked over their wing feather, weight or feather loss.
It's so confusing.... of the above symptoms, the only ones he has are sleeping during the day, head tucked over wing feather, and he did have weight loss though I'm happy to report he seems to have put some weight back on.
The common crop form of canker is the one most breeders are familiar with, the vomiting bird, the bird with froth at the beak,
Maybe the gulping was vomiting? Though he never actually expelled anything he could have been vomiting just in his throat. The froth at the beak part is confusing - just this past week, he is developing a brownish substance on the upper corners of his mouth but it looks hardened like you could scratch it off with your nail. I don't know if this is what is meant by frothing (that almost suggests something wet) but then sometimes I think this is the beginning of scaly face mites though it's really not on his face, only his beak. I have the Ronex on order - I think I will do as suggested and use it at 4x strength for the first few days (says is safe and can be used in difficult situations).

I am desperate for this little guy to be well again. It's unbelievable how long he has lasted - this is 4 weeks in. It also mentions symptoms brought out by stress which makes perfect sense as this all came about about a week after his babies fledged. He was the main feeder and I'm sure the babies drove him crazy between feeding and all their crash landings (often on his or the mom's head!!!) when learning to fly.

As far as if he was society raised, that I don't know. I purchased him in December but don't know if he was parent or society reared. What worries me also is if it is canker, and he was the main feeder to his chicks, now I'm going to have to worry about his children as they grow. What a headache.

@debbie276, are you familiar with what I'm talking about with the brownish residue on the corners of his beak? Maybe I can see if I can get a picture of it to attach. It's only come about this past week but is on both sides of the beak now. I know most references to scale on the beak talks about white or flaking on the beak - he has neither. Maybe this is what they mean by frothing of the beak?

Ok, he finally woke up and is out and about for the day so I could get some pictures

As mentioned, this stuff on his beak has only started about a week ago but you can see it's on both sides of his beak. I know in the pics it looks partially white but in person it just looks like a brownish substance (he's under a colored heat lamp in the pics)

I'm not sure that is a symptom of Canker/Cochlosoma :? I've never seen that before.
It almost looks like Avian Pox, though it only seems to be in the corners of his mouth. Are you seeing these growths anywhere else, it might be time to see a avian vet.

Oh my...this poor baby. :( Can you email these pics to Laraine and Dr Rob too? I think an avian vet is going to be your best bet too. So sorry, Lisa. :(
