Photos: Gouldian face mites??

Yet another issue with my Gouldians... There is the feather loss as you can see but he also has these little sores (which almost look like honey-comb holes) around the under-side of his beak. But it doesn't look crusty enough to be Scaly Face??? Let me know all thoughts and suggestions.

Hi Finchie,

to me it looks like he's being plucked - and very roughly to cause that bleeding. Do you know if the lump on the top of his beak is a sore or dried blood?

Also, are the little sores around the underside of his beak on his skin or on his beak? One of my Goulds plucked a Zebra on the underside of her beak.

Here are some pics of one of my Goulds going through an extremely heavy moult - is this anything like what the 'honey-comb holes' look like?

Have you treated your birds with SCATT or S76 as a preventative? Both should get rid of any mites (scaley or air sac) that your birds may have.

That is a bit of dried blood. He seems to be rubbing it on the perches so it must be some kind of irritation/mites. The burrowing mites or honey combe area under his beak are in the crevices between his skin and beak (but not on his beak)... I have treated him and my other finches with Ivermectin, so hopefully this works???

Also when should my Gouldians molt??

Aw poor little guy. The Ivermectin should do the trick though.

Gouldians typically moult after their breeding season. Most of mine moulted June/July.
