Polly my late Java used to go outside all the time and stretch his wings, but only if I was with him, he wouldn't go out on his own though.

Mine did that but I never let them outside. Only in the house. They want to be near all the other finches. Only thing was...when they kept getting out it was harder and harder to get them to go back in so becareful.

We had a teacher at my school who used to have a cockateil in her classroom. She would take it to the playground everyday with her students. It had not had it's wings clipped so it could fly, but never went anywhere. Sat there on her shoulder the whole time. I would have been so afraid to do that.......

One thing to remember, there are a lot of diseases out there that your bird can pick up fairly easily, if it is gone for any length the chances are high...so imagine if your bird caught something on it's travels and then passes it on to the rest of your birds.

Me 50 years ago in a very poor photo with Henry my Canary wing conure.
No clipped wings....and Henry went everywhere with me,even on to the bus and into town. Why he never flew off I don't know but he never did...and he was able to fly ok.

Wow that seems amazing to me. These little birds have a very distinct nature about them and about being with other finches.
