I don't think you mentioned that they like height :D thats great to hear! my Tiel had a HIGH cage and not so wide.. I hated how hook bill cages were like that ALL THE TIME (well most of the time).. :(
I am excited too! I just have to keep my brother in law interested in doing this lol cause if he wanders off a project he is prone to just leave it unattended for months. He has been doing his master bedroom for over a year now ... but he redid his bathroom (the whole thing, breaking the tile etc) and did that in 3 days - but again, leaving the master lol.
IF my babies, ... have babies, I am going to keep them. UNLESS they have 9 or a freak amount then I will have to let them go... :( but I am hoping they only really have 4 max [-o< so I can keep them all. I really would like my ones in their homes before they actually start doing things like have babies.. but once they have these babies I dont really know what I would do.. hmm... give them to family and friends.. then they soon will have a lot LOL.
I just google mapped how far your sister is from mine and its one hour 30... :) so perhaps one day we can trade babies for sure! We rent right now so when we buy a house I am looking to move to IN, border CHI so that we can take full advantage of IN safety, pretty and BIG houses etc LOWER TAXES! we are still a young couple with a 2 year old ... so its been a bit tight $ wise

Sounds good then :) I will have height too. I was thinking it might look a bit silly to have him build a nice cage.. and only have it wide and not very tall. I guess they will have more things to do when it is bigger :)

I will have a whole fair ground on the bottom for them hah!

Of course, if it's nice and tall you always have the option of dividing it horizontally into two cages - then you can have twice as many birds!

The more space the better with birds. I have the original cage my canary Kevin grew up in and its SOOOOO small! He's so much happier in a flight cage, as are my star finch, Merl, and my Zebbie, Beaky! They all free fly around the room, and very much enjoy it!

Zebrafincher thank you the contribution :D I wish I could let them be free but with a car that's not very likely. And if it was OK with a 2 year old its highly unlikely. Though they are not intimidated by her as much as they are with me :( I guess it's cause she just watches them and her hands don't go in. Though I caught her trying to wedge in their bird bath when I was getting things ready lol she means good. And feeding the hay through their cage cause the floor is "messy".
More room te merrier ;)

I've had Kevin (my canary) for 10 years +, and he's used to coming out. The others sometimes needs some encouragement to come out. I fly them in a back room, which is not huge, but enough to let them rev around. I use the top of the old cage with a perch in it, to get them back in., though most of the time, they can get back in themselves!

easy answer here. birds usually fly straight ahead and not side ways lol
