Re: I got my 3 inch MINI perch!
I had a concrete perch and it was much rougher than these. Actually I think they're about the same, if not the same, that are sold at ladygouldian.com. It's a bonded sand coating over manzanita wood. I try to put them where they will land and take off, but not perch for very long. As I said, by the water, and I would like a little longer one by the bath where they perch for a few minutes waiting their turn, but that's about the only time they land there.
Our Petsmart (Banfield) vet said that if I wasn't comfortable clipping their nails, I could file them with an emory board, that I thought should be up for the stupid suggestion of the year. It would take much longer, bend the toes as it scraped back and forth, and feel weird. The poor birds would probably die of stress right there. Maybe it would work beautifully, but I'll let them do it themselves in tiny increments with a "runway" perch. I also don't always have them in the cage. I rotate perches a lot, sometimes depending on which ones this disorganized person can find wing nuts to fit.

Re: I got my 3 inch MINI perch!
dcompt they really said to file them down??? Wow!
Well for me it's not the cutting of the nails, I was a cat and dog groomer and probably cut nails eyes closed while getting mauled to death half way. I don't know what it is about birds but I feel I will break them as they are so fragile - or so I think! I know where to stop but for me I am scared to catch, hold still, DON'T let them go, and release! I will have a pool is sweat around me and the birds would looked bathed from my palm sweat!
Can you send me a link of the perch you got if that is ok? I have a thick one my tiel used but its about 3/4 inch thick - I would assume way too thick???? It's not pained sand either it's those petsmart ones I got for I think $15 or so?
When I get them I will use it where they land and kick off, not a roosting spot or chill spot. I guess that is what I did wrong
felt so bad the vet showed me and I gasped! She had tough skin but it also looked like it may of hurt
her bracelet thing was also cutting into her foot, so I am absolutely scared of those too! The vet couldn't cut it off..., I wandered off topic again lol.

Here are several links:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/121029506802?ss ... 1423.l2649
http://www.ladygouldianfinch.com/produc ... icperch.ph
Sometimes you can find them on Amazon too.
Others might disagree about them, but I figure if they're sold on ladygouldian, they are probably ok. I actually got my small one from her. The large one I found somewhere else.
They come in some wild colors. I've managed to get a dark brown and dark green one. I would ask an ebay seller what colors they had. Finches are so spooky. I like the more natural colors in the flight, and I can't imagine the guys not being terrified of a red perch.

Re: I got my 3 inch MINI perch!
Just a quick tip. Perches like that of ANY size can easily be constructed with tree branches, small anchor bolts, washers and wingnuts. You can make one in less than 5 minutes. In a pinch, I've even taken 12 inch plastic perches (the kind that attatch by sticking a tab through the cage bars and twisting) and cutting them down to 3 or 4 inches with a hacksaw or even heavy duty a pair of scissors. I've often used these as landing perches on the cages of birds that I let free fly. Bob

No tools, no skill, no ambition. I admire the DIYers among us. I have to let someone else do it for me.

Re: I got my 3 inch MINI perch!
Thanks for the links!!!
I will look into them for sure! And yes I want as natural colored ones as I can get... Though colors are fine I just don't want things to be neutrals and then have this BRIGHT BLUE thing.. Lol when my finches are anything but colorful! ;)
And ....
I also have no tool as well
I do have ambition but with a toddler who no longer naps... I am not doing any kind of DIY after she goes to bed at 8 lol I'm pooped! If only my husband liked doing DIY! He's trying to get ME to rescreen out screen door. "Go to Home Depot and get the screen stuff and do it this weekend." UHno. LOL. Maybe when I have more free time I can do stuff ;) that'd be fun. But I also don't know what trees are safe. All I know is my backyard has a mulberry tree.

And ....
I also have no tool as well

Does he have room to dance and bounce when they are both on it? If not, that might be a little relief.

dcompt actually no, not enough room to hop! But he can probably stand up straight and just sing... No bopping unless lol they have to bop around mechanically if they sing!
It's funny when he is on it alone he is sitting pretty much painted onto the cage side waiting for her to perch with him. And she's just eating not giving him attention.
