Hey! I really would like to share a story and pictures of my finches. I didn't find any place where users can do this, but I saw there some topics with pictures and stuff, so I hope it's not a wrong place. So I decided to add some pictures sometime, because I like topics like this.

Anyway, my name is Kadri and I'm from Estonia. I own 2 cherry finches, 3 society finches and 4 budgies (but I think I don't put pictures of my budgies. Maybe one, just to show how do they looks). Yesterday I got my third society finch, because frirst two was female and I didn't wanna give one away. I like the new one the most. He's stunning. So beautiful, so nice colour and voice. However he's voice is loudest. My finched doesn't have names yet, but I think my male beauty's name is gonna be Chocolate, Herakles or Silvester. And I have one question: does anyone know why my female societies has only one tail feather? One of them has tu be 2 years old and the other one year. But now some pictures.

The cherries are beautiful! Hopefully you'll have babies from them, and no doubt you'll have societies babies now you've added a handsome boy to two lonely girls. Have fun!!
As for your one tail feather society question, I'm not sure.

Your birds are beautiful - I really love the Cherry Finches - and your cage really shows them off well. Very nice.

Societies do have a tendency to lose their tails. In my experience, this happens most often in a group situation where there might be competition for mates or some sort of stress. I noticed you have two nests in your cage and that there were photos of the Societies in both nests - and the Cherries in one. It is possible the Cherries are trying to establish their nest as their own and in the chasing, the Societies can lose their tails.

Many birds seem to release their tail feathers when afraid and Societies seem to do this more than some others. I remember some years ago a friend had bred a nice clutch of Purple Grenadiers and saved one particularly nice one for a local show. He worked hard on it - conditioning - spraying - etc. On the morning of the show, my friend caught up the PG and it began to struggle as he was putting it in the show cage. My friend firmed his grip a bit - and as the bird flew into the cage, left its tail feathers in my friend's hand!

Thanks, Martie! It can't be because of chasing, because I put them together yesterday and they all were very friendly. When I bought them they had one feather. So I don't know why is this so. I just hope their tails are crowing back.

If you haven't had them long, my guess is the tails will grow back just fine.

Lovely cage and beautiful birds! You will have Society babies in no time now that you have a male. They tend to breed like rabbits!

The tail feathers should grow back. I have one society who has lost her tail twice in the last year and a half. Do not know if it is another society plucking it, or if that's the way she molts, but the feathers do grow back. The bird just looks a little bit funny until it does.

The Society's may interfere with the breeding of the Cherries, so you may need to separate them into different cages. Also, sometimes finches will pluck feathers from other birds for their nests. Either way, the feathers usually grow back.

No they didn't. I made it for my societies when I put them in another cage, because they like to sleep in the nest and I didn't have another one.
