My New Aviary

Post by Stygimoloch » Fri Jul 05, 2013 1:29 pm

I've had great fun designing this, then finding all bits and bobs to go inside for my little beep-beeps

The flight area is 4 x 5ft (7ft to the roof)... and my friends are laughing at me because I have just 4 little ones in there lol
Once I've got some more bushy fake plants I'm thinking of adding my owlies to the mix too.

My mum suggested adding a pair of java sparrows in the future, but I'm not sure how they'd get along with everyone else - wouldn't want to crowd them all!

Hope you like :D
(the table is moving away, just havent got around it it yet haha)

Great aviary! What are your plans for winter to keep the birds warm?

Thanks all!
There's three finches sized holes in the back wall that they can bob through into a little shed type thing on the top half of the back wall. I've got a tubular heater to go in there when it gets chilly, as well as thick tarp (i think thats the word I'm looking for!) to keep the wind and wet out of the flight :)

What a beautiful aviary! I love the design, especially since it's wood :D

Our winters here in the Cape are also wet and windy. I attached thick, clear plastic on the front now for winter (I just used cable ties for easy removal in summer). This might also be an option for you to still allow light in the aviary versus the tarp. Something to think about :)
