Slow growing bump above my gouldians eye

Post by Lylwhen » Sat Jul 13, 2013 2:25 pm

I am very concerned....just noticed today....and in a couple of hours it has gotten bigger.....I read the java finch having the weird growth on the beak, avian pox......is this the same thing?

It's Saturday and getting an avian vet isn't likely......already tried before, loss a society from egg binding already. :YMSIGH: :YMSIGH: :YMSIGH:

Please someone......help?

I had to click on the photos to enlarge them and then zoom in to be able to see. I really can't tell what it is at this point.

I would urge everyone not to panic when they see any injury/growth/bump on their birds. Don't assume that everything is avian pox or avian TB. Most of the time, it is something else entirely, and totally treatable.

Looks like it may be a sinus infection. Here's a link to pictures, do any of these look the same?

Not sure I remember seeing about a java with avian pox, did an avian pox search. Avian pox is more a growth at the corner of their mouths and on bare skin. The only posts that I found with pictures are these:
http://www.finchforum.com/viewtopic.php ... =avian+pox
http://www.finchforum.com/viewtopic.php ... ox#p273436

Ginene's shafttail's turned out to be TB when the vet tested the growth but thought it was avian pox till the results came back. You can see that what you have is a bit different so I wouldn't jump to avian pox right away. Maybe you could email Laraine and see what she thinks at the link I posted above.
Good luck, keep us posted

I COMPLETELY agree with Sally!!! Turns out my Shaft Tail had Avian TB...not Pox. But your Gould's bump is on top of her eye and Juliet's wasnt. Might be something sinus related. Check out ladygouldian.com. They have a medical trouble-shooting photo link there that Debbie introduced me too. It's great for a comparison. Also, my Shaft Tail had her lesion between the eye and the beak. That is very different in the world of birds. Best of luck to you...

I am sure it is treatable, but you might want to isolate her just incase

Doesn't really look like Pox. Pox tends to be individual nodules around the eyes and face and mouth of the bird. Usually it is MULTIPLE nodules and the animals end up actually dying starvation or respiratory issues. Pox will often cover the eyes. Have seen that a lot in wild birds. Also it tends to grow and spread fast. I'd isolate this bird just in case and keep close watch until you can have the bird examined.

Okay, so I purchased from Lorraine's website, Amoritex, tetratex, and sovereign silver.....I had asked Larraine for advise on whether I should try Amoritex on my whole flock since she was with them before I put her in the hospital cage....wiping her face on the perches etc....I already removed and replaced with new ones. Larraine suggested I should not. She is on the Amoritex regimen...... [-o< :-SS

Her bump has not changed since the photo, it does look like a sinus infection when I compared her with the photo Larraine has on her website....just smaller, thank goodness [-o<

Has anyone have any experience with using sovereign silver with treating their finches? There isn't much information about usage and indication for finches on Lorraine's website.....so what do all of you think of these drops? Again thank ALLL FOR YOUR EXPERTISE ON finch health!!!
