New Babies

Post by Pierce130 » Fri Sep 05, 2008 8:44 am

The other day I discovered new Spice babies (I think Dad is the Society Finch). They are soooooooooo tiny. Wow. The parents have not been off the nest long enough to see if all 5 eggs hatched.
Wish us luck.

Things are going well with the babies. One egg did not hatch and the parents pushed it out of the nest. Feathers are starting to form on the wings and they are becoming more vocal. Parents are out of the nest more often and thus, I get to see more of the babies.

All seems to be well with "old" babies. Three of the five survived..one egg thrown out of the nest. And, one baby fell out of nest to early and it did not survive...but the last three are doing very well and are now venturing out of their nest...not too graceful yet and do a lot of clinging to things and boy are they vocal. They are definitely cross-bred. Half society and half spice. I am hoping they will not be fertile as I don't want any strange births in the future. DD and DGC are planning on taking some of the birds as the quarters in the cage are too small for all of them to stay.

Not sure how long they are dependent upon their parents?
