wet vent

Post by lpappy » Tue Aug 13, 2013 12:58 pm

I'm hoping someone can help me with a gouldian problem. Yesterday I noticed one of my gouldians was acting listless, had droopy wings and a wet vent. I put him into a hospital cage with heat. Today his poop seems a little more formed - it's not all water like yesterday but still has all of the other symptoms. I was going to orde some meds from the ladyfinch website but I'm not sure what to order. Any help would be appreciated.

Hard to say, those symptoms fit many things that could be wrong.

Do you think the RonivetS would help?

Sorry to report that my gouldian passed away this morning. it's been so long since i lost one I forgot how bad you feel. I did order the meds and they are on their way so hopefully next time I will have something on hand to help them if one becomes ill. I've only ever treated for air sac mites so I guess I've been lucky with the health of my babies.

It could have been so many things. I have had birds with the wet vent problem, treated with various meds, but it always seemed to return. All but one of the 3 that I have had with it eventually died. :-(

So sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss. Often with finches, by the time they show they are ill, they are very sick and even treating them doesn't save them.

Thanks everyone for your thoughtfulness. It's so hard to figure out the problem and treat it in time. It's been quite a while since I lost one so I guess I'm doing pretty well. It's so sad to loose them though.
