Tried making one today out of bamboo....didn't go so well lol! The 105-108 heat index may have had something to Do with it...that's my excuse anyway :)
Hats off to anyone that makes one! I won't be so tiffed paying $6 for a wicker one at petco next time haha, that's for sure!

I don't think that the birds really care what they look like as long as they are somewhat functional. Bob

2 orange cheeked waxbill finches
2 java finches, 1 split to normal, 1 white
2 bourke parakeets
1 american staffordshire/american pit bull terrier
1 boston/jack russel terrier mix

I don't think Michaels carries it, but you can buy basketweaving reed online at reasonable prices. Daughter and I made a couple baskets from kits, and it was so much fun we were going to start making baskets for everyone for Christmas presents and such, but then life interfered. But I had looked up the stuff online and was all ready to start ordering.

It comes in different types and colors, too, so you could be both rustic and artistic. You soak it to soften it, and if it starts to dry and stiffen while you're still working, you just wet it again. Easy to work with. Well, easy once you get all ten fingers cooperating. Daughter was about 7 years old, maybe, when we did this.

I think they definitely need red berries or fall leaves or something added. Think of how cute the pictures with the birds will be.

Awesome idea, Ruth. I am "not allowed" to charge anything, so I will have to go on a hunt at the craft stores. I'm already going to be in trouble for charging $40 for travel cages  ...lol!

I don't know.. what type of willow tree are you using? Salix babylonica is the best for knitting. :)
