LOVE those Black faced Fire Finches!
How do you have them housed?
Do they get along with others?
I have one pair of Black-Bellied FF's. They have so much personality packed into such a tiny package!
I have them in a large aviary with Gouldians, Forbes, one old male Painted, and 2 Society males, (that I never see, because they seem to always be in a nest!)
Peace and Love reigns. A great combo for a mixed aviary.
I would love to have ALL the Fire Finch species - but common sense and space takes precedence - (most of the time) -

Great looking! I always notice you have a special way of holding your birds for pics. What is it you do?

I always like to see pics of your new birds, you have quite a collection of species now.
What species have you had success breeding this year?

Re: Pics of new birds from Orlando bird fair.
I saw those black faced firefinches at the show. I wanted to buy some, but I was on a mission to pick up a pair of green-backed Twinspots. I was also uncertain if they could hybridize with my other firefinches. They really are gorgeous! You'll have to let us know how they get on.
Do you think the vendor you purchased them from is selling wild-caught birds? Sometimes I wonder.

Love the black faced ffs! Are they very expensive and do they require a special diet? Bob

Re: Pics of new birds from Orlando bird fair.
I thought the hen looked like my BB hens but as I couldn't see the belly very well I just assumed they were similar. Hoping you can come up with a hen for him. They are another beautiful fire species. Plus, you've got to get a BB cock now.
I absolutely love mine.
Sounds like you're off to a great start to the season with your various chicks. I read and posted about your success with the Senegal Fires. Awesome.
