Hi eveyone,Im new. I have a pair of gouldians that have hatched some babies, from the mouths i can see Im thinking about 4-5.
Everything has been going great except tonight the mum is refusing to sit in the nest? The babies are 9-10 days. They are on our patio in a patio avery style cage so it is too big to get in the house to keep them warm so basicaly Im just wondering is this normal or will the chicks freeze? I dont want to interfere!! Thankyou

Welcome to the forum I think they will be fine, but I think some of the other members will advise. How cold is it there at this time of the year? I think they will keep each other warm in the nest.
Do you have a night light on the porch maybe the hen will go in nest later in the night if it gets to cold

thankyou for your reply,I have put the porch light on just now. 17 degrees outside so not too cold I guess and there seems to be a few so fingers crossed they snuggle up and keep warm.

The hen should stop brooding at that age. The chicks keep each other warm.
Some finch species continue to brood like Societies, but it's normal for Gouldians to stop. I'd be more concerned if they stop feeding them.

17c is no problem for gouldians...or chicks if they are in a well built nest.
