hey i just watched video that bird has not got canker but a serious mite and lice problem 2 drops of ivermectin to the back of the head directly on the skin part feathers and 2 drops directly down the beak for worms and air sac mite etc with the help of a second person and a split ring applicator keeping beak faceing up until swallowed should see a healthy little birdy and no need to with hold any fresh water then.not a bad little finch by the way..he going crazy trying to shake mites off..very agitated bird..treat all others as well its only cheap sheep and goat ivermectin..repeat in 6 mths dont provide bathing water for 2 or 3 days after treatment.they will have a sulk for an hour or two but after that they will be fine..when a bird has canker they will throw there head around regurgatating up and down side to side..
a vet should sell you 5 or 10ml and use a dropper..

zebra zombie, I thought the same thing myself and administered S76 one drop on the back of the neck just twice in two days before I found the canker in his mouth. He was having slightly green droppings which is indicative of liver problems. Any liver damage at all can easily result in an itching all over the body and canker affects the liver. Ever since giving him the Ronex 12% though the itching has calmed down alot, droppings are normal, and he's much less tired all the time. He's still recuperating so he can't come close to competing with his friend Waxbill anytime soon, but he's alive and not acting strange anymore (actually on the same day I noticed the green droppings and canker he also had an episode where he had his beak open and stared over his shoulder like he was having an absent seizure...). He must have been just within a few days of the canker getting the best of him had I not caught it... very scary.

Keep us posted. hope he improves. As far as future dosing as a preventative contact Laraine @ ladygouldian.com and she can also best advise you on dose and how many times. Did she say anything about treating or watching the other birds he was in with? If it was necessary?

Yes, he's still improving. I think he's completely in the clear now.
I think I'm going to wait, now that I have time, as an avian specialist vet is finally coming back to town in October. I'm just glad I could save him for long enough to have that kind of time.
As far as his partner in crime and currently only other finch with him (at least for a little while), he is perfectly healthy and I would not suspect that he's contracted anything. But, he did go through one round of treatment just in case at the same time that Zebra did his second. I'm going to stop treating now because I think it's all good. I just need to keep an eye out for any relapses.

finchmix22, I want to particularly thank you from way back when you first posted on my previous topic. It was the fact that I ordered the amoxitex, ronex and S76 on your recommendation and I had the medicine I needed when I finally came to a conclusion that saved Zebra. If I hadn't had the ronex on hand in those last few days it may have taken too long.
Thank you!
Thank you!
