Canary with eye problem?

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Canary with eye problem?

Post by Panamera » Sun Sep 01, 2013 7:32 am

Hello,

My lovely canary who's always been a bundle of joy seems to have an eye problem. A while ago his eyes was looking weird, thought it would go away, then it looked like he was fully blind in one eye. then it healed and was ok. then it happened again and now he looks like he cant see from one eye at all, it heals and goes back to that state again.

at the moment he is living alone as he was too violent with the other ones. He doesn't seem to be in any pain. eats and drinks fine, he sings a lot too.

Here's a pic i just took while clipping his nails.

some guy suggested I buy an eye ointment from the pharmacy and apply it, but I thought maybe a canary forum would be better for tips :).

Thanks!

Hard to tell what is going on from the picture.

Here's a page of pictures showing eye problems that may help you:

I would suggest emailing Laraine and see if she can direct you in the right direction.

Thanks for the link!
Well there's only one actual eye infection there that suggests eye drops.
I'm guessing its not anything beyond the one eye since he's been singing so passionately I haven't been able to sleep in this morning haha :).

Who is this Lorraine you speak of? :)

I believe that Laraine is the owner of the website and store from which that link was posted. I would at least try colloidal silver in the eye and perhaps a broad spectrum antibiotic. Bob

Laraine is the site owner and has helped many bird owners solve bird problems.

Sorry if this is quite obvious, but I can only find information on Crystal.
