Caught by a nail

Well one of my society males, Pipkin, got his nail caught inside the nest and was hanging outside when I got up. His leg seems o.k., but not flighted and being bulled in others so now he's resting in hospital cage poor guy. Then I finally pulled out the female fledgling as I saw one of the guys try to mount her...O NO, while doing that another flew out of the cage to the delight of my cat, who thankfully heeded my command of NO when she was about to pounce. bird caught crisis averted. All this on a bad leg so I am having trouble walking...fun morning this.

Glad you saved the finches! About three years ago a young OCW escaped and I'd only had finches for about one month. Well, in my attempt to catch the finch before my "eagle eyed" cat, Zoie got to it first, I jumped off a barstool and ran like fire to try and catch the finch, but, unfortunately my cat caught the finch before I could get there. That was our first lesson in training our cats around the finches and in how to prevent escapees. We now have them in a bird room! You were very lucky no one got hurt, except yourself, just like me. My knee was bruised to the point I couldn't walk on that leg for six weeks and had to wear a brace. What we do for the love of our finches.

Actually I hurt my leg last night although it's been funcky for about a week. It's not just my birds it's what I do for animals in gen...I once let a yearling deer kick the daylights out of me instead of letting it flail around by a foreleg in the barbed wire fence it was in. Wire cutters arrived and deer was released with no perm injuries...as for me my leg was swollen and block with a nice set of hoofprints for a week...but the deer was o.k., lol. Pipkin is hanging in but I still don't like how he is. Still doesn't seem flighted although he's alert. I just put a container of hot water with a lid for him to perch on and he seems to be liking that. If no improvement tomorrow I'll call the vet. He has eater at least a lil of the millet I put in. Doesn't seem dehyrdrated as he's alert...goofy animals.
