Vying for title of Most Boring Canary Ever ;-)

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Vying for title of Most Boring Canary Ever ;-)

Post by Sunbay » Fri Aug 30, 2013 1:54 pm

In competition for The Most Boring Canary in the World:
This is "Rob-Dog". This is where he spends 80% of the day.
When he is out, he eats, takes his daily bath and he sings beautifully. Seems healthy - just prefers to be The House Supervisor from his station.
He did the same in the mixed aviary, (after years of getting along with everyone), and got pretty 'protective' of ALL the nests. Had to take him out.
Gotta love him!

Does he do normal perching and normal behaviors if you take the nest out of the cage?? I don't understand why the nest is in the cage if it is only him.....

He is cute though!

Are you sure"he's" not the elusive singing hen? I've owned and bred plenty of canaries, but have never had a male spend any amount of time in a nest. Even the protective ones would guard from above or the side. :? Bob
3 canaries
2 orange cheeked waxbill finches
2 java finches, 1 split to normal, 1 white
2 bourke parakeets
1 american staffordshire/american pit bull terrier
1 boston/jack russel terrier mix
6 adopted stray cats
2 adult, 1 young leopard gecko
4 fish tanks and 4 fish bowls
3 turtles
2 teenage kids and 1 wife

I also wonder if this is a 'gal' rather than a boy canary. I've had several females, which have all been obsessed with nests. My male canary, Kevin, likes pulling them apart, but he's never sat in them.

He most definitely sings. A beautiful song, at that. It did cross my little mind he might be one of those hens that sings.
No eggs though.

I am willing to give him to a local, good home where he would have a mate. He is about 1.5 years old.

He needs a girl. :!:
