No, at least when I do stupid things I'm smart enough to hang on tight.

Two of those together would be about the same length and width as the A&E double flight cage, but about 5-6 inches taller cage space. It is indeed a huge cage. I have my budgies in one (the A&E), they love being able to fly around.

Oh, I think I can remember another discussion about joining two of these, too. I think someone said that the side panel is integrated into the wheel, so you cannot remove the side, for connecting.

I suppose if someone really wanted to do it, they could use wire cutters, and permanently remove just the wires, and then connect them with both still having their wheels.

I think someone else mentioned joining them back to back? I will quck search and see if I can find that.

I have two of them.... one for zebs and one for my future owls...

the wheels mount into the bracket that makes the lower shelf...

the sides have the vertical support made into them... the fronts and back attach into them... if I was to simply cut out one side to attach them it would actually weaken the cage...

you could attach them front to back but that would just make a deep cage... guess I would be better off doing a custom build

Will,

If you were going to do a custom build, is there any way you could dismantle the cages, and use the panels of them in your custom job? For instance, you could build a long back out of plywood, and then use some of the cage panels for the top and sides, and then make a front with Plexiglas. Hmm, now that my mind is working along those lines, I can think of several possibilities....

I have one of these Prevue cages, too, that I've been planning to sell. Now I'm going to have to go take a look at it and see if I can figure out something creative to do with it. Of course, I'll only have half as many pieces to work with as you would.

Honestly it would be a real easy kitbash... all you would have to do is get 6 posts of equal size and length and cut all the panels out and use four posts on the corner and two in the middle... one front and one back... add in 6 crossmembers... 3 top and 3 bottom and then it would be done... a little time... planning... and a good jig it could be awesome... darn... now I want another F040 to make the owls a custom cage...

Well I went and looked really closely at mine. It appears that most of the sides consist of an upper panel and a lower panel. So if I took them apart, I would have two shorter back panels, two shorter side panels, and two shorter front panels that have doors. And the "frame" around each panel appears to be just three sided (top and two sides, with the bottom being just bare wire ends, not framed) The whole cage is held together with screws that fit an Allen wrench, so taking it apart should not pose a problem.

My husband looked at it, and he agreed that if I made a new back piece out of plywood, and a new base to put the wheels into and to support the whole thing, then I could reconfigure all the pieces and make a cage that is twice as wide as it is now. (The bottom shelf by the wheels is exactly the same size as the top panel, so that solves that part of the dilemma.)

Not sure I have time to take on another project right now. The basement is already cluttered up with all my other half finished ideas laying in various piles. [-X But I just emptied this cage out and it needs to be cleaned anyway, so I think I'll at least take it apart, clean all the pieces real good, and then see what I feel like doing with it.

Oh, believe me, I get driven bonkers plenty!!

I rearranged the clean pieces and have made them into two front halves with sides, a left front and a right front. I am convinced I can make a plywood back. I just need to figure out how to make a rectangle base, and some way to connect the two halves together in the middle. And since it's going to be twice as wide, it's going to need a third set of wheels in the middle. I have several ideas floating around in my head keeping me awake nights. :) It's going to take a little bit of carpentry skills that I don't yet possess.

I should take some pictures of what I have so far, since explanations probably are inadequate.

black heavy duty cable ties placed in six inch intervals would make it hella strong in the middle...

you can take the legs and bend them away from each other about half an inch... then slip on a washer when you install the center wheels... the washer will push the wheel down lower to compensate for the raising from the bending of the leg
