Wild Quaker

Post by 30 Seconds to Bob » Sun Sep 15, 2013 8:01 pm

While discussing the loose budgie topic the other week, Cindy brought up the matter of all the loose quakers and conures thriving in my area. She even informed me of an active quaker nest in a Walmart parking lot - half way between her neighborhood and mine.
Although I never found the nest, I did find a family of quakers perching in a tree. Perhaps they have all fledged by now? They were up pretty high, and this is about the best picture that I could get this evening. They blend in so well, don't they? Lots of wild quakers around here, so you KNOW that I'll post a better picture some day. Bob

When I go back Bob, I will get a picture of the nest it is way up high, my husband spotted it first, directed by the begging sounds. I almost blends in like a big ball of moss. You could see the babies begging a bit, that was about two weeks ago.

I will keep my eye out the ones that come around our house, black capped conures to.

If it looked like a big ball of moss, then I think I may have seen it. Not what I'm used to seeing from a quaker. Usually they have huge communal nests made of sticks. Nothing like I've seen at the baseball fields or electrical power grids. In any case, I believe the young have left the nest. There were at least a half a dozen quakers in that tree. Bob

Great photo.
We have thousands of quaker or monk parakeet nests in the owner lines on our side of the state.

We have cherry head conures in San Francisco. I had three in my apple tree munching away at the golden apples.

Yes, they are the parrots of telegraph hill but I live way on the other side of town closer to the Pacific. How they knew I had perfectly ripe golden delicious apples growing on my side of town is beyond me.

Hi Bob, \
what did happen to the budgie? Still flying free? And having seen the parrots of telegraph hill movie, I can understand why you mused over what to do.

Thanks for saying that Zebrafincher. I would think that anyone who quickly assumed that the budgie was better off captured, has never watched one enjoying total freedom. Haven't seen him in a while. Bob

I love the wild parrots of telegraph hill movie.

I just planted several unpopular mulberry trees to feed our "wild" birds in a huge area away from the house. Many people in the neighborhood were cited for having illegall invasive non native plants taking over. The whole side yard is bare now. The mulberry trees will be enjoyed by the Quakers.
