So my gouldian chicks hatched 3or 4 days ago, and until now everything seemed fine. Tonight both parents are sleeping on the sleeping perch and not in the nest though!

It's warm in the room and I don't think they will get cold, but isn't that not right? Or do gouldians hate being in that box so much that they leave asap? Should I just see if she goes back in in the morning??

Someone please tell me not to be paranoid...
I did peek a minute ago to make sure she hadn't killed them or anything -- they look fine with full little crops etc.

hi,I asked the same question a few posts back!! Aparantly as they get older the parents to this and the chicks keep each other warm. My gouldians stoped sitting when the chicks were 7 days,they are now nearly 17 days and still alive and strong.
Read back a little I had some good advice! Best of luck with them!

Hmmm, 3 or 4 days is a little too soon for them to stop brooding. They usually stop when you can see the beginning of their flight feather pins.

Behaviour varies...they should be ok in a warm room.

If their crops were full they don't sound like they're being neglected. I'd say they're fine. Behavior patterns vary by individuals as was stated earlier. My Gouldians have only one chick and they still both sleep with it in the nest box. I'm not sure if it's because it's a single chick or what but I think that these parents have extra love for this little one. IT's nearly 3 weeks old now and should fledge soon, i'm excited!

Yay for paranoia

This morning they are both out of the nest, but they seem to be popping in to check on the babise periodically.

I put an extra cup of the dry eggfood in there just in case.

Try fresh hard boiled egg grated....much better

I do on days when I don't work -- I think 12 hours is too long to leave the fresh stuff out.
