Finch eye Swollen
I have a Gouldian Hen, who seems to be in excellent health (she can really bite hard too). Does not seem at all sick. Flying, eating fine, etc. Her one eye is swollen, no discharge. She is rubbing it on the perch. None of the other hens in the cage seem to be having problems. Pictures attached. I have emailed the pics to Laraine at Ladygouldian.com

Re: Finch eye Swollen
Hi
Have had this with some zebbie's and a cockatiel hen .
not all together just 1 every now and again .
Definitely think it's some dust/dirt or a prod to the eye and not a feather issue .
Used some eye wash ( optrex ) and a cotton swab around the eye not in .
They all cleared up over time some quicker than other's , cockatiel hen is taking longest .
I also provided a bath , freshly replenished daily , this helped too as the bird's could wash when they wanted/needed , completely stopped them from rubbing their eye off a perch .
Hope this help's .
Regards , Mick .

Re: Finch eye Swollen
I recently had this happen with a Scarlet chested, the vet gave me a prescription which I filled at the pharmacy for Ofloxacin Ophthalmic Solution 0.3%. 2x's a day in each eye.
It was an irritation, possible conjunctivitis. We think because she is molting either the quill dander may have gotten in her eyes from grooming or the other hen had kicked dry egg food and seed backwards and she may have gotten dust in the eyes. The medication had cleared it up, she has until Tuesday on it. The vet did mention that eye irritations can also be an indication of sinus issues.
How is her breathing?
If your birds do not bathe, try misting them, it will encourage them to groom and it will knock back some of the dander produced during a molt.

Thanks all. She does have extra heat. Have put a drop of soverign silver on the eye last night. plan to do so again this morning before we leave for my son's cross country meet. Will also mist her. They have a bath provided all the time, and someone was bathing yesterday, but did not see which one. I have her separated now, so misting should be easy.

Just an update, After a few days of dropping soverign silver in her eye, it cleared right up, and she is just fine.
