Introducing the GS Hatchlings I'm Handfeeding Now

Post by finchmix22 » Fri Nov 08, 2013 3:19 pm

Here is a picture of the two GS hatchlings. They are about ten days old, eyes open and eating well. They still eat about every 2-3 hours, whew! I'm trying to enjoy them, since Zelda was one of my favorite finches (their mommy). They are starting to get yellow on their wings! So cute.

They look great! Thank goodness you have these two, so you will still have a part of Zelda.

Congrats that's a lot of work to hand feed the little ones. What do you use as your
hand feeding tool?

Thanks everyone! I am feeding them about every 3 hours now. They can go a little longer, maybe 4 hours, but at five hours they are starving. So, 3-4 hours between feedings. They reach up and flap their wings to beg and make such a cute begging sound. I don't feed them in the middle of the night, but the last feeding is late at night, like 11pm or midnight and then first thing in the morning around six am. It's working well so far and I'm giving them a thicker mix of formula since their two weeks old now. They seem to take that pretty well.

That's about the same time schedule I use at this age, they should be fine. They will tug at your heart the closer they get to fledging, and then when they fledge and fly to you, you will melt.

Sally,
You're right. They already know me and watch me when I'm feeding the finches. They aren't sleeping as much now and sit and watch the other finches in the room. I'll move them to a small cage in a week. This week, I may put them in a larger nest as their droppings are huge and they get stuck in them sometimes. I have to keep cleaning them up. LOL.
