I am still trying to figure out the cage situation as two of mine are in cages that aren't as big as I'd like but still have no car right now! And I lost my job!! But that means more time with my babies!
Well, I still have 2 black breeders that you are welcome to, if your ever in my neck of the woods or if I'm ever in yours  . And they are yours for free, so no worries about money. I'm really sorry that you lost your job. It's a tuff time to be out of work :( . But I'm so happy that you were able to keep all of your babies!!!
I'm SCARED TO DEATH to let my owls breed...They're in a huge double wide flight with Stars and BCCBs (could cause a problem), I don't have my societies set up to be possible fosters (they are so young themselves), my work schedule is packed T, W & TH and the holidays are coming up which would make hand-feeding tosslings difficult. UGH!!! Maybe I should just have hubby knock that lovely nest down and remove all of the nest material... #-o

I tell ya, use one of those breeders to let the owls do their thing, then pull your owls out leaving the young'uns behind and I'll take the breeder cage pre-filled =))

No, seriously, it is a busy time of year coming up with holidays and all. So you could either let them do their thing and it comes out however it comes out, or you can sabotage their nest building. For my crazy zebras, I pulled a bunch of leaves off some excess silk plants, and tossed them in the cage. So they have something to try to build with, but it just doesn't really work, they can hang paired leaves over perches, they can stuff singles in here and there, but it almost never works that they manage to build any kind of structure, and even then it's pretty pathetic. Mostly things just keep falling down, or getting stolen by someone else. So, they are busy, but not successful. If anything does start to take shape, enough that they sit "in" it and start to chase others away, that's when I step in and pull it down. Or when all the leaves are tucked away somewhere and they have nothing left to play with, then I also pull everything down and let them start over.

Have looked online and am not happy with what I've found, so if I ever get to Michael's I will look, but I would love to find just a package of silk leaves, green, to have a huge supply to keep tossing in the cage. The current ones are getting ratty, I trim frayed edges off with scissors, but these current leaves are therefore getting smaller and smaller and smaller....

:YMDEVIL:
And with regards to your 13 bird limit....

Start calling it the "finch room" not the bird room.
Refer to your "13 finch limit" not 13 bird limit.

When he starts using the same terminology, then you're all set.
Parrotlets aren't finches.
Canaries aren't finches.

Get the idea??? :YMDEVIL: :YMDEVIL: :YMDEVIL:

Ginene hopefully I will be over there at some point to search for my long lost uncle who supposedly lives there. And I agree with Nerien, I would either just let them do their thing and see what happens or prevent it all together. You can either leave it up to nature and the birds themselves as to what they want to do or just negate it altogether to prevent stress. I personally would leave then be because just like what happened to me... "oops more babies" is a good thing :) I went from 3 to 7 (now 6) literally overnight. But if you are like me and many of us here which I know you are you will worry yourself crazy!!! I just love birds so much!!! Ugh!!! Lol.. I get such a kick out of them and prefer them to humans most times.. Of course that is.. humans who don't feel the same way I do!

OK...so I separated the jumbo flight, so that the owls are alone with their nest and the Stars are with the BCCBs. I'm contemplating pulling 2 male societies and putting them into a breeding cage with a nest as possible fosters...OR I may just build a brooder and have that available if my owls abandon their babies. Not sure yet... #-o

I think I'm WAY in over my head, debbie! What are the chances of a young pair having a successful first clutch alone in 1 half of my large double flight?

Ginene Hello my dear friend... I just caught up and I really sense indecisiveness on breeding them at this point. You made a great point, the Holidays are upon us, and if you get struck hand feeding, and stressing out over tosslings etc.. It could take the joy out of everything. Why don't you just enjoy them for a while? Give them fake eggs and enjoy them building and sitting?

I don't want to sound like a party pooper, I just would die if you went through another downer so soon. [-X

That is IMHO only

Your not a downer, Jennie...not at all. I am still undecided as to what I am going to do. They are enjoying their nest in peace, now that the flight is divided again. I have fake eggs that I can give them...I'm still deciding what to do. Owls require a lot of privacy, so I don't know if they will be successful or not. I will keep you posted...
