Spice Finch!

Post by FallenIce » Mon Nov 18, 2013 3:34 pm

I'm so excited, my spice finch pair finally produced a chick!
I wasn't sure if it was a spice finch chick at first though.
It fledged today from one of my society nests and has been raised my my societies.
Is this normal, for spice finches to lay their eggs in other finches nests?
I don't care that they did, I'm just glad to have a new chick join the flock.

I believe Spices and Societies can interbreed. So it could be a hybrid. Or perhaps the Spice hen wanted to lay communally like Societies often due. Either way it's a little cutie.

Congrats. Spice finch fledglings look drab and take a while to slowly molt into adult plumage. Societies have different color beaks. I believe your baby is a spice finch.
