Help!! Treating Mites/Lice

Post by txstitcher » Thu Nov 21, 2013 6:20 pm

I need advice! I have some sort of mites/lice (??) in the cage...found them under the water dish on Monday.

I ordered SCATT, S76, and DE powder and received it in the mail today. I also have Avian Insecticide Liquidator.

What do I do now? LOL

What's the best way to to treat 6 societies? I need step by step instructions!

Thanks in advance!!

Instructions from websites
http://www.allbirdproducts.com/newprodu ... dator.html
Apply as a fine spray to the bird until feathers are dampened. Birds may be dipped in an A.I.L. solution (e.g. Pigeons and Poultry), if more convenient.
Liberally spray the cage and surrounds. Bird rooms, aviaries and feed storage areas should be sprayed or fogged (using an electronic fogger) with A.I.L. to reduce population of lice, mites, flies, mosquitoes, fodder mite and mealy moth.

Application: Hold spray bottle 11 to 12 inches from the bird and apply four to five pumps per bird. Also spray cages, aviaries, perches and nest boxes thoroughly with diluted product. Repeat in six weeks or as necessary.

Apply liberally to the bird. AIL will not cause damage to the birds eyes or lungs. Thoroughly spray the birds environment concentrating on cracks and crevices where insects may hide and lay eggs. For sclay mite, ensure that the cere and legs are well covered.

Thanks for you reply! So it is okay to use all three products? I'm not going overkill by using them all?

Scatt and S76 are basically the same thing, you usually do one or the other. They are good for scaley face mites and air sac mites, which you don't seem to have.
DE powder you can't hurt by using, how effective it is is questionable.
The avian insect liquidator is perfect for external mites and lice on your bird and in it's environment.

Thank you!!! Ok, another dumb question...S76 says I need to clean the cage every 2nd day for 3 weeks. Is this true as well?

I use Scatt when I need to, never used S76 so can't say for sure but I don't recall that being part of the instruction.
