You know it's bad when...
you find it perfectly understandable why there is a bag of dried worms in with the Halloween candy.

Yes, and you also know it's bad when your kids notice it, but aren't surprised.
They said it was actually fitting for Halloween.

You haven't cleaned under the giant flight full of budgies in a while, which is fine because all the little fluffy feathers from the last round of molting are tucked away in all the cracks and crevices and underneath the storage shelf, out of sight.
But then, when vacuuming the room, you accidentally turn the back end of the vacuum, the end that's blowing out, towards the cage and all those little hidden fluffies--
And suddenly it looks like it's snowing inside the room.

Then add a crazy, curly-tailed, half-flop-eared yellow dog jumping and snapping and eating all the floating feathers!

You know it's bad when....
the whirring of the bathroom fan, left on and forgotten, annoys you, the vibrating of a loose fridge magnet on the fridge annoys you, the endless blowing of the neighbor's leaf blower annoys you...
but the whirring and thumping of finches taking a bath and then drying their wings, one after another after another after another, is music to your ears.

Oh my goodness these made me laugh so much. And Nerien your stories and the visuals I get are just too good. I was almost crying.
I think the best one was the seed hulls in the cleavage though. After working a pet store all the kennel girls would have hulls and fluff everywhere when they'd get done back there. I'd be picking little fluffy feathers out of their hair. I'd inform them of seed elsewhere, but they were on their own at that point. lol
Let's see:
You know it's bad when...
...all the pet store employees know you by sight/name and automatically ask how your birds are and how much feed, etc you need. Or they feed the flame and tell you "Omg look at this ______ we just got in."
...the boyfriend texts you to ask if a bird doing something is "normal".
...when company is coming over you immediately think "Oh god, I have to sweep under the bird cages. (Not to mention everywhere else. Long-haired dachshunds track leaves from outside as well as other bird related things all over the house.
...when people come over and stare at you/your house in amazement and say "Wow, you do really have a farm/zoo!" or "Do we have to pay to pet them?"
To clarify I have the flight cage/s with finches, two long-haired mini dachshunds, the new American eskimo puppy, a breeding pair of sugar gliders (and invariably two joeys at a time), four chinchillas (who produce kits randomly), a salt water and fresh water fish tank, and a Pacman frog who is finding a new home shortly. So I've pretty much got a zoo.
...when Anya, the American Eskimo puppy/professional panty snatcher thinks it is her duty to nose through/eat the hulls in the floor under the flight cages. And you debate letting her wondering if the mess will be better or worse when she's done.
...and when your boss walks up behind you at work and just says "Ah, looking at the weird bird website again..." chuckles and walks away.

You know it's all good when.....
You take your green cheek conure to the grocery store and pizza hut and everyone loves him and no one tells you to "Get that bird out of here." LOL. I was surprised everyone wanted to know about Lil Bit and were curious why he stayed on my shoulder and didn't fly away...Training and clipped wings; although, his flight wings are growing and he can fly some, but not up high.
That is awesome... I take Coconut everywhere too..
