Horny Java finches

Post by Geordie » Sat Oct 11, 2008 9:46 pm

I have 2 males and about twice a year they get really frisky for about 2 weeks looking for the lasses, the noise from them is driving me crazy, so I think I am going to get a couple of females and let them have their wicked way with them. Call me a pimp if you want but I will do anything to abate the noise right now.

Any advice? lol

Somehow I don't think adding females is going to stop the noise. It will more than likely double it. Earlier this year I had 2 pairs. I now have a total of 37 with another clutch of 8 on the way!! All these are in several holding cages and they are noisy as hell at times. They do take a while to colour up too so they can be hard to offload until around 5-6 months old. Just be aware of what you're in for.

lol, I have considered all that, they are going to be moved into the spare room when I finish the new aviary, the back of the aviary will be up against the patio window which I have already fitted screen doors to so lots of fresh air but nothing can get in to harm them, the front of the cage will face out into the room so Riff & Raff can still come and go as they please as usual. But come on, like the song goes...when a man needs a woman...I can't deny them.

Good luck with them Geordie, hope they bring you some success. Just 1 Q, how do you hand tame 40 new Javas?
