I made my societies so happy!

Post by dcompt » Thu Dec 05, 2013 11:46 pm

I had replaced a couple of perches in my flight - they were those long, wavy, light colored branches Hobby Lobby has. I wanted a change so I pulled them out and put in some brown branches, also wavy, maybe a tad thinner, but not so different from what was there. In over a week I had never yet seen one of the birds land on one of them.

Yesterday I cleaned the cage rather late and pulled them out, putting the others back in. Joy! Ecstasy! They flocked to them, perching first on one, then the other. At this time of year they are usually moving into their nests by 4:45, and by 5:00 all but maybe Hermit or Patch, who like to stay up late, have settled in. Last night at 5:30 they were all still out, flitting from one perch to the other, sitting on them in groups, clearly beside themselves. Even when the first of their lights went out, they were still reluctant to go to nest, apparently reluctant to end this happy day.

I had no idea those perches meant so much to them! I guess they are permanent fixtures, now and forever. =))

Poor Rocksteady! Who knows. Birth defect? Accident? I assume it doesn't look like new injury.

I never hear anything about the baby girls, only John. How are they getting along?

Sounds like the finches are happy and content now. I know my finches have perch preferences too.

LOL the girls are fine LOL Roseanne is bossy. LOL honestly only loved by her husband lol nobody wants to be near her!
The girls get along (sisters) very well and from eachother. Nobody touches Roseanne. Everyone wants daddy... Then here comes Roseanne the top(?) finch and they all fly away like thy suddenly need to drink water!!

I wonder if it is a defect. It doesn't look new or isn't struggling with it. It doesn't have a nail so I'm thinking that whole bit wasn't there!
