Rocksteady and the case if missing pinky toeS!

Post by chirpy » Thu Dec 12, 2013 3:32 pm

I was wondering... What this is or what cause this? Genetics?

My little daddy rocksteady has no toes. I have never noticed it so I don't know if I got him like this (bad me!) he is absolutely healthy otherwise and the nicest out of he bunch (5) should I be concerned?

I didn't notice as he flies and perches well as well.

It's interesting that it's the outside toe on each foot. (I am seeing that right, aren't I?) That might mean genetic, but it might also mean that in his early life the toe-nipper would sit next to his victim and go for the nearest toe he could get.

Have you done a toe inspection on all of his children? Everybody got all their toes, and are they all the normal length?

Nerien yes! I thought it was the one (his) left toe but I saw it was both and finally got a pic! I mean he has absolutely no struggle he did also mount on Roseanne which isn't hard since she's huge therefore has a broad back! But his kids all haw toes and normal length he has nubs on his pinkies. Sort of like he lost both of his first section of his toe

We have a zebra who is missing the tip of a toe. We didn't notice until after we had her home. It doesn't seem to affect her at all, either.

Nerien is it like his? I'm thinking its genetic I think it'd be hard to have both toes exactly like that if it were ripped off at some point? I don't know.
Not that I mind cause he's happy and the sweetest!

It looks rather like that, the toe just sort of ends early. On Splash, it's a center toe.

Hey, check your pm's

I know hookbills sometimes chew toes. We had several handfed chicks come into the store that way because the parents would do that. I'm not sure if finches would do the same...

It's probably genetic, but it could have been an accident with a wicker nest as a chick or something else...

When you're looking at him, you're probably not really focused on his feet - not with that fetching hair do!

Look through your earlier pictures of him, are his feet clear in any of them? Then you could see whether he had his toes when you got him, or if you can blame Rosanne for henpecking him.

Search for "Rocksteady", and then go to the earliest posts you made. Saw a picture in "I got my 3 inch MINI perch" where you can clearly see his right foot, and it has the missing toe tip present. If you look further, you might find other pictures that are clear.

So, maybe you DO need to feed Rosanne more. She might just have a taste for toes!
