Why do finches grunt?

Many of you know I have soc's. a small family of them...

I know when they are angry annoyed or scared they chirp like che'che'che'CHE!

And of course there's the fluffy dance...

Why do some of them GROAN or GRUNT.

It really sounds like marge Simpson when she's unhappy like GrnNNNmmm...


It's just a question... I know its silly but I don't know why!

I'm not sure what sound that is either. I hear a lot of quiet nattering among them, especially when talking over something new or changed in the cage, but I'll have to listen for this. Though I have to admit having never seen the Simpsons, I don't have a audio reference point.

But, Chirpy, nothing your brood does would surprise me!

It's a grunt. But a long one. A sigh and a grunt in one. It's very quiet and its usually Roseanne (surprise surprise there!) when interrupted if she's perching or she's eating on the station and someone intrudes but its not mean sounding its like Grmmmm... Def not cute..

Some of mine make a little, low, "crabby noise" at times. I'd describe it as 'craaaaawww craaaawwww' kind of sound, raspy, soft, low.

Not so sure I'd say they're actually acting crabby at the time, tends to be when things are quieting down at the end of the day, and the other cages are already being covered for the night. Societies usually get done last, just because, because of where they are, and because they aren't laying unwanted eggs so we don't worry if their 'daylight' goes a little longer than some others who do lay unwanted eggs.

Maybe they're tired after a long day? Maybe they're complaining that the day is ending too soon? Dunno. They're not telling.

That particular sound is just the societies.

The next most weird sounds come from the budgies. There are some really creative and vocal birds in my flock. And one or two really crabby, well okay, blitchy birds in there as well, who let us all know when they are unhappy with one of their companions.

The others don't seem to do anything weird or unusual, their sounds tend to be more of what's expected from their species, as far as I can recall at the moment (it's been a helluva day).

My hubby and daughter have decided to teach the parrotlets to blow rasberries. Hopefully, those little birds will NOT start to copy them.

Ah, I have heard that. A friend comes every couple of weeks after work and helps with some of the heavier cleaning that's getting hard for me to do. That keeps them up about an hour and a half past their bedtime with all the room lights on, and indeed they do grumble about it. When she leaves I always apologize and quickly turn off the lights and go to my "night room." Really, is asking for a little dark and quiet to sleep too much for a bird to ask? They don't think so!

Chirpy, now you have got me thinking. A couple of times I have heard a different kind of bird sound that sounded almost like when the Gouldians are having some kind of disagreement. Kind of low and vibrating. But different than the Gouldian noise. And it was coming from the side of the room away from the Gouldians. (Well, there is one Gouldian over there.) Usually when I hear a bird make noise, I can pinpoint which bird is doing it if I look quick enough while the noise is still happening. But this noise, I wasn't even sure which cage it was coming from. It's the society side of the room, so now I'm going to have to listen for them to do it again, so I can see if it sounds like Marge Simpson.

Finnie hahahha!! Those soc's haha! It does sound like a disagreement.. When homer does something wrong lol. It's a low vibrating noise.. Grumbling.

I can't explain it and they don't do it much so I can't record it but I think its my top bird momma doing it ive seen her do it once and she it "eye brows" when she did it (like cockatiels do - mine always was mad) lol

I don't know y'all....maybe I have to pay more attention to see if mine do it. But part of me doesn't want to hear " grahhhhhh, crawwwww, grummm" PuHaaaaaa!!!!
